Farmers’ Market to Open in Five Points River North 

 

DENVER - The community is invited to join in the celebration of Harry’s Urban Farmers’ Market grand opening, a new downtown Denver farmers’ market, July 11, 2015 at Crofton Middle School, 2409 Arapahoe St. 80205 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

 

The market, centered on the peak harvest of Colorado farmers, will be open every Saturday from July to September and will feature produce from local farmers only and goods from Colorado artisans. 

 

“The market is about 10 percent farmer at this time,” says Allison Anderson, market manager. “Our goal is to engage more Colorado rural and urban farmers so they can bring their produce directly to the community. That’s what people did 100 years ago. They knew their farmer.” 

 

The market will also feature artisans who use Colorado sourced goods to make their crafts. 

 

“I’m excited to feature such talented Coloradans who are taking either from the earth or reusable items and making something great and usable,” said Anderson. 

 

Anderson is originally from Washington State and has lived in Europe, raising her family in Northern Italy where she learned about open-air markets. 

 

“Markets there are for everyone,” said Anderson who hopes to feature an opportunity for low-income shoppers to use SNAP, the Colorado Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, at the market. “Harry’s Urban Farmers’ Market is in a diverse neighborhood, and will have a diverse consumer. We want to meet the needs of everyone.” 

 

Anderson hopes the market will catch on to the residents of the Five Points, River North and surrounding neighborhoods and that people who want to know where their food comes from and want access to their farmer can do that at the market.
